George was born in Pompton Plains to the late George and Virginia (Farrell) Corter. He grew up in Butler and Wanaque and lived in Stockholm for many years before settling in Montague in 2018. George spent many years working in construction, where his strong work ethic, reliability, and practical skill were evident to everyone who knew him.
When he wasn’t on the job, George was happiest at home. He loved working in his yard and spending time outdoors, finding peace in fresh air and open space. Whether tending to his property, riding his tractors or ATVs, or simply enjoying the land around him, he felt most content when surrounded by the things he had built and cared for.
Home, hard work, and the outdoors brought him fulfillment, and those who knew him will remember his steady presence, simple joys, and deep appreciation for a life well lived.
George is survived by his life partner, Penny Post; his children, George F. Corter, IV and his wife, Kathryn and Taylor Corter; his ex-wife, Debra Corter; his step-children, Danielle Maher and Chris Maher; his grandchildren, Dante, Thomas, Mackenzie and Jace; his step-grandchildren, Axton and Harper; his siblings, Gale Rooney and her husband, Vince, Cindy VanNieuwland and her husband, Dan and Lulu Goepfert; his nephews, Stephen, Patrick, Kevin, Mark, Ryan, Michael and Austin and his great-nieces, Jordyn, Camryn and Rilyn.
