

Born to George and Mary Orvetz (née Kukta) on October 29, 1950, Greg grew up in Carteret, NJ, before going on to earn his bachelors at Tarkio College Missouri and his Master’s of Clinical Psychology at William Paterson University. For many years he dedicated his career to serving the needs of the intellectually and developmentally disabled communities in Northern, NJ.
Greg married the love of his life, Karen (née Bosi) and shared 37 years together including being a loving and proud father to his daughter, Caitlin.
Greg found joy in working with his hands and was known for his skills in carpentry, his talents at blade sharpening, and his annual holiday baking with many delicious varieties of cookies. Though facing health challenges in later years, Greg’s dedication to his family never faltered as he worked to take care of himself and his loved ones.
Greg’s memory will be honored by his devoted and loving wife, Karen, his cherished daughter Caitlin Christensen and son-in-law Joseph, his brother, John Vargonick, and many other dear relatives and friends.
Visitation for Greg will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ 07860. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Joseph’s Church, Newton, NJ at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Interment private. Masks and social distancing are required at each gathering, out of respect for Greg, who passed away due to COVID-19 complications despite being fully vaccinated.
