He had just celebrated his 88th birthday in August. He grew up in Clifton NJ and lived in the surrounding area for many years. However, he spent 24 years in Alabama which he loved, often citing “Sweet Home Alabama” when he spoke of it.
While he worked in shipping/receiving and as a massage therapist, he never really defined himself by his work.
Rich was passionate about music, he loved classic rock, with The Eagles and The Who topping his list of favorites. He played guitar for many years until his fingers wouldn’t allow it anymore. His dad built him a home gym as a teenager and a love of health and fitness was ignited. He spent a lot of his life heavily involved in the world of powerlifting, competing and setting many records, of which he was very proud.
He found the world beautiful, enjoyed history, and loved to travel which is evident by the numerous t-shirts he had of every place he visited. If you were close to him you were likely given picture shows of his adventures. Just as much as he liked sharing those photos, he loved seeing pictures of his grandkids' and great-grandkids as they grew. The thing he “kept” most were photos of his family that captured his visits with them, which he always made a priority.
He was a “punny” guy - loved a good pun, literally saying “sock it to me” to his nurse while she was putting on his socks the day he passed. He also loved a good meal and a warm cappuccino, always sharing in detail the delicacies prepared by Bev or Kathy when he visited with them.
Rich had a large family and is survived by his three daughters, Beverly Moore (John), Kathleen Nielsen (Mark), and Sharon Otto (Greg), his sister Janet Cordier (Bob), his niece Judy Cordier and nephew David Cordier (Emily), his grandchildren Jason Beyer, Talisa Galloza, Mark Romano (Deanna), Kara Nielsen, Matthew Moore (Kelley), Michael Moore (Lisa), Joseph Moore, 8 great-grandchildren, his best friend Sherrill Lackey, and his former wife of nearly 30 years Loraine. He was predeceased by his parents, Herman F. Beyer and Helen (Caddell), his former wife Mary Beyer (mother to Beverly, Kathleen and Lori), his daughter Lori Galloza, and his grandson Thomas Nielsen.
A private, family celebration of life will be held for Rich. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The American Cancer Society in his name.
