Born on January 13, 1946, in Teaneck, NJ, James was the son of the late James and Mary (Wardlow) Hart. He spent his formative years in Paterson and Totowa before making Sussex County his home in 1972.
A gifted engineer with a deep passion for innovation, James enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the aerospace industry, including many years at Smiths Aerospace in Whippany, NJ. Later, he founded his own firm, James Hart Consulting, where his expertise and integrity earned him the lasting respect of colleagues and clients. He retired in 2020.
James was known for his love of cars and motorcycles, taking special pride in his Shelby Mustang, which he meticulously maintained and enthusiastically drove. He valued time spent with close friends, sharing stories, trivia, and laughter. Above all, James cherished his family, his loyal dogs, and the satisfaction of working on projects around his home.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Phyllis (Reynolds) Hart; his son, James A. Hart, Jr. and wife Amy; his daughter, Amy Alexander and husband Steve; his brother, Thomas Hart and wife Carol; and his cherished grandchildren: Emily Mulvoy, Gillian Mulvoy, and Dale Sarah Hart.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 66 High St., Newton, NJ 07860. A funeral service will follow on Monday, May 5, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with interment at North Hardyston Cemetery.
