John F. Abel

John was born in Newton, NJ, the only son of the late Eugene and Elizabeth Abel. He is survived by his cousins, nieces and nephews. John was educated in the Newton School system then attended Rider College where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in business. After college, he worked for General Motors, where after a series of promotions he moved up to the position of Internal Auditor. In 1976, after the death of his father, John ran his parents business in Greendell, NJ prior to moving to Pennsylvania in 1986.

Mr. Abel was a life member of the NRA, a member of the F&AM Harmony Lodge No. 8 in Andover, NJ, the Lehigh Consistory in Allentown, PA, and the Irem Shrine in Dallas, PA. He was also a member and past chief of the Green Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Visitation for John will be held from 10 to 11 am on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton, NJ, with Funeral Services beginning at 11 am. Interment will follow in Tranquility Cemetery, 19 Maple Lane Rd #17, Green Township, NJ.
