John was born in Franklin Township, July 20, 1952, to the late Imogene Veronica Flanagan. John grew up in Franklin, NJ and settled in Andover Borough over 40 years ago. John was a proud Army tank commander and National Guard Veteran. Prior to his retirement, he was an Industrial Engineer. John was an avid hunter and fishermen, enjoyed doing carpentry, and listening to music. You could often hear him singing along. His favorite times were spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.
John was the beloved husband to Phyllis Flanagan, for 38 years. He is survived by his children, Jeannette Hewitt, Jon Flanagan and wife Lisa Marie, as well as his seven grandchildren, Brian, Colin, Eric, Braeden, Leigha, Elijah, and Zelda.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ. A funeral service will begin at 8 p.m.
