John was born in Morristown, NJ to the late John and Antoinette (Sacarik) Granda, He spent his childhood in Rockaway, NJ before settling in Sussex County more than 50 years ago. John will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his devotion to his family, and his ability to engage with anyone who would lend an ear. Whether it was sharing his thoughts, offering advice, or simply lending a helping hand, John’s warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His career as a dedicated sales representative for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company spanned over 35 years, during which he traveled extensively throughout New Jersey, especially in Sussex County. John’s genuine care for others was evident in his professional relationships as well as his personal life. John was a devoted husband to his wife, Patricia, with whom he enjoyed traveling to historic sites across the Midwest and Deep South. Together, they explored new places, indulged in casino adventures, and made countless friends along the way. At home, John found solace in tending to his house, garden and creating an elaborate Lionel train room, a true testament to his meticulous nature and love for the finer details of life.
Above all, John will be remembered for his love of family and his unshakable commitment to those he cared about. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and the wisdom he shared with everyone who crossed his path.
The beloved husband of the late Patricia D. Granda, John is survived by his children, Jeffrey Hoit and his wife Cathy, John P. Granda and his wife Jacqueline, Frederic Hoit, III and girlfriend Cheryl Thomas, and Leslie Granda-Hill and her late husband Gregory; his daughter-in-laws Melissa and Laura Hoit; his grandchildren, Tina (Steve) Schultz, Jeffrey (Inga) Hoit, Amanda Hoit, Jacqueline (Jose) Pereza, Cassandra (Alex) Brown, Nicholas (Lane) Hoit, Paige (Matt) Battista, Morgan (Wil) Chase, Shannon Hill and Samantha Granda and 17 great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, John was predeceased by his daughter Lisa A. Granda,his son Timothy M. Hoit and sister Mary Bankos.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, 294 S Sparta Ave, Sparta, NJ 07871. Interment to follow at Locust Hill Cemetery in Dover. Visitation will take place from 12-4 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ 07860.
