Born on February 18, 1936 at French Hospital in Manhattan, NYto the late Peter and Irene (Dobosh) Gianattasio, Joseph spent his early years in Astoria, Queens. After graduating from the New York School of Printing, he proudly joined the National Guard, carrying with him the values of dedication and discipline that would guide his life.
In his early twenties, Joseph settled in Flushing, Queens, where he began what would become a 40-year career as a typesetter for a printing and publication company. Fate would bring him to Eastover Resort, Massachusetts, where he met the love of his life, Bernadette. They were married on November 10,1962, beginning a journey together that would span decades. Their first home was in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, and in 1998, they relocated to Sussex County where they would share the rest of their days.
Joseph’s life was rich with simple pleasures and steadfast passions. A member of the former Pioneer Club of Hasbrouck Heights, he found joy in the quiet patience of fishing, the crisp stillness of hunting mornings, bowling, the adventure of travel, cooking and spending quality time with his family. He cherished his getaways to Lake Wallenpaupack in Pennsylvania and treasured the sunny days spent along the Jersey Shore.
Joseph leaves fond memories to his beloved wife of 62 years, Bernadette Gianattasio; his daughters Kathy Gianattasio, and Michelle Gianattasio (Joe Gerardi); his daughter-in-law Marcy Gianattasio; his grandchildren Haley, Joseph, Jacob, Gianni, Cody, Mackenzie, Matteo and many loving family members who will miss him dearly. Joseph was predeceased by his son Peter Joseph Gianattasio; and his sister Jean Bunone.
A Memorial Mass for Joseph will be held at 10am on Monday, August 18th, 2025 at Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, 209 US-206, Branchville, New Jersey 07826.
