Born and raised in Lafayette, Mary Jane graduated from Newton High School.
For over 25 years, she worked as a kitchen attendant at the Valley View Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Newton where her tireless work and warm spirit brightened the days of residents and staff alike. Her dedication went beyond her daily responsibilities— as a talented baker, she made it her mission to bring joy to the residents by surprising them with beautifully crafted birthday cakes. Mary Jane’s three children especially cherished the extravagant cakes she created for their own birthdays, each one a unique masterpiece made with love.
In her spare time, Mary Jane found peace in tending to her garden with care and pride. She was also an avid and lifelong fan of the New York Mets. When not in the garden or cheering on her favorite baseball team, Mary Jane could often be found curled up with her beloved cat, Misty, enjoying a Hallmark movie.
Mary Jane is survived by her three children Marilee Kimmel, Guy Wintermute, and Melinda Wintermute; her two granddaughters Auriel and Katrina; and her great-granddaughter Wryn.
Funeral arrangements are being held privately under the direction of Smith-McCracken Funeral Home.
