Born on July 10, 1949, in Phillipsburg, New Jersey to the late William and Dorothy Hartzell, Nancy was raised in Hackettstown, New Jersey, and graduated from Hackettstown High School. She lived in Sparta, New Jersey, before settling in Fredon, New Jersey in 1993. Nancy’s life was marked by her deep connection with family, steady purpose and quiet dedication.
Starting her career at Picatinny Arsenal, Nancy then began working for Bell Labs seeing them through the transition to AT&T and finally to Lucent Technologies where she dedicated 45 years of service before retiring as a manager. Her long tenure reflected a deep sense of responsibility and professionalism, and she carried those values throughout her life.
She had a passion for the many beauties in life, whether attending craft fairs, taking trips to Cape May, or enjoying a long, leisurely car ride and the tranquility of whatever path she chose. Her artistic talents shone through in her impeccable home décor, where she lovingly displayed a wide array of cherished collectibles. Nancy’s most precious accomplishment, however, was the steady presence she provided in the lives of her family and friends. She devoted countless hours to the people she loved and was always there to offer a guiding hand, a shoulder to cry on, or simply a quiet and comforting presence. No matter the circumstance, she could always be counted on to be there.
The beloved wife to Allen Current, Nancy is also survived by her son, Trevor Current and his wife, Leatrice; her grandchildren, Taylor and Tyler Current; her brother, William Hartzell; her brothers-in-law, Wilson Current, Jr., Raymond Current and David Pike; her sisters-in-law, Lura Bruno and Jennie Pike; her godson, Zane Pike and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Nancy was also predeceased by her sister, Joyce Martin; and her brother, Warren Hartzell.
