Born on September 30, 1931, in Richmond, VA, Norma was the daughter of the late Louise Virginia Vance and William Ralph Vance. She grew up in Virginia, but moved to Newark, NJ, where she attended Barringer High School. Norma embarked on a fulfilling career beginning in 1963 as a school bus driver for Montville School District and later for A.R. VanRiper School Bus Company. After relocating to Morristown, Norma drove a city bus before acquiring a Taxi Business medallion, marking a significant achievement in her career. She obtained her CDL License, and briefly partnered in driving a tractor-trailer for United Van Lines across the country. Then continued her journey in transportation by driving commuter buses for the Lakeland Bus Company. Before retiring, Norma dedicated her time to driving handicapped children for the Parsippany School District part time.
Norma was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who cherished family gatherings. She enjoyed dining out with friends and family. Her love for bingo brought joy to her leisure time, whether playing on a lottery card or in a bingo hall.
Norma is survived by her children, Kathryn Vanderhoff (Ronald), Anna L. Dayermanjian, Richard Dayermanjian Jr. (Mary); her grandchildren, Jason E. Lippe and Michelle D. Oswald; and her great grandchildren, Madison, Grace, Brelyn, Kenzie and Colton.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 7 pm to 8 pm, at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ. Memorial Services will begin at 8 pm at the funeral home. Norma’s life and legacy will be celebrated by all those she touched with her sense of humor and infectious smile.
