Robert Bruce Mason, aged 89, passed away on October 13, 2025. Born on July 31, 1936, in Irvington, New Jersey, Robert grew up in Sparta and spent most of his life in Sussex County before settling in Sparrow Bush, New York, over 20 years ago.
Robert was a proud Marine veteran and dedicated the latter years of his career to serving as the head of building maintenance for Ogdensburg Borough Public School, retiring in 2002. His commitment to his work and country was unwavering.
Robert appreciated his time as a Marine and his identity as an American. He found joy in gardening and tending to his flowers, enjoyed snowmobiling with his sons, grandsons and his nephew and could be found cutting down trees and splitting wood for exercise and heat. He loved reading and often visited the Port Jervis Library. In the last few months, he found joy in attending Highlands Bible Church with his son and his family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Mason, his parents, Paul and Dorothy Mason, his son, Michael Mason, and his sister, Judith Layton, and her husband, Ronald. Robert is survived by his son, Matthew Mason, and his wife, Naomi. He was a beloved grandfather to Caleb and his wife, Katherine, Noah, Nathanael and his wife, Giuliana, and Charles. He was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his great-grandson, Lincoln Robert.
A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Highland Bible Church, 307 NJ-94, Vernon Township, NJ. Interment with military honors to follow at Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 75 N. Church Rd, Sparta, NJ. Following the interment repast will be held at the Lafayette House, Intersection of 75 Route 15, 100 NJ-94 and, Lafayette, NJ.
Robert Bruce Mason will be remembered for his dedication to family, his service to his country, and his love for the simple pleasures in life.
