Bob, better known to his friends as Rabbit, was born in Newton, NJ on April 30, 1944, to the late Mary Marsh. Rabbit grew up in Newton and lived in Netcong before settling in Montague over 35 years ago. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner and operator of Montague Auto Body.
Known for his deep love of classic cars, Rabbit could often be found at car shows, sharing stories, knowledge, and a bright smile with fellow enthusiasts. Rabbit also had a lifelong appreciation for guitars and music, often strumming his favorite tunes. He also had a fascination with trains and treasured a good meal.
Rabbit is survived by his daughter, Michele Scabet (Dave) and his sister, Brenda DeMott. Rabbit was predeceased by his wife, Sandra Scabet and his brother, Joseph Marsh.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, NJ 07860. Interment will be held privately at Stanhope Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, in memory of Rabbit’s late wife, Sandra, memorial contributions may be made out to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 6520 N. Andrews Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309-2132. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
