Russell Allen Myers, who was most recently of Haskell, New Jersey, passed away on June 27, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on May 25, 1940, in Newton, New Jersey, Russell made his way through life with a steady hand, a quick wit, and a sense of humor that could lighten a room.
Russell was a graduate of Newton High School Class of 1959 where he excelled academically and athletically, earning varsity letters in both baseball and wrestling. Russell joined the US Army and served from March 1964 to May 1966. He dedicated 40 plus years working for various construction facilities as an excavator, bringing diligence, reliability and consistent hard work to a long career before his retirement.
Outside of work and service, Russell found peace and pleasure in time spent fishing, especially in the streams within Walpack and Flatbrookville. Those who knew Russell knew he could be found near the water with a fishing pole in hand, grateful for the quiet and for the memories made there, particularly with his late brother Rich, with whom he had a close relationship. Russell also carried a distinctive sense of humor that stayed with him through the years and he took pride in being a devoted lifelong New York Mets fan. At home, his care showed in the warmth of what he made—he loved to cook and bake, especially bread which he continued to perfect over the years, offering comfort in the form of good food and shared moments.
Russell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan (nee Dodd) Myers, who passed on July 2, 2003. He was also predeceased by his parents, Frank and Myrtle Myers; his brothers, Frank, Bob, Richard, Nelson, and Emmett and his son-in-law Dennis Sieben.
Russell is survived by his daughters, Dana Walker (Matthew) and Lisa Sieben, his son, James Myers (Kevin); his beloved grandchildren, Zachary, Laura (Paul), Benjamin, Lydia and Riley; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Arabella and Nicholas, as well as nephew Ricky and niece April, who he shared a special bond with.
Russell will be remembered with respect and gratitude, for a life shaped by service, hard work, and enduring love for his family.
A private service will be held by Russell’s immediate family under the direction of Smith-McCracken Funeral Home.
