Sandra Jean Pedersen

September 23, 1939February 16, 2021

Sandra Jean Pedersen, 81, of the Lake Lenape section of Andover, was called home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.

Sandy was born in Marseilles, Illinois to the late Samuel and Elsie (Pearson) Farmer. She grew up in Marseilles and attended St. Olaf College where she met and married Christian Pedersen in 1960. They moved to Sparta and started their family there, before moving to Andover in 1970. Prior to her retirement in 2008, Sandy worked for 30 years at Family Christian Stores, formerly known as the Faithful Source. She was an active member at Lafayette Federated Church and was a Trustee, music committee head, choir member, a part of the women's trio, and an active participant in Bible studies there. When her kids were young, she was a class mother and her kids' biggest fan.

The two most important aspects of Sandy's life boiled down to her love for the Lord and for her family. These two facets controlled all that she did. Sandy asked Jesus into her heart as a teenager, but it wasn't until she and Chris came to Lafayette Federated Church in the mid-1970's, that her faith really started to blossom. Around this time, she also began to work at the Christian bookstore. Every part of her life was immersed in the Lord. The music she listened to, the books that were read, and many family activities were chosen because of her love for Jesus. She had an eternal perspective and she and Chris wanted their marriage and family to be centered on Him.

Sandy also loved her family with all of her being. She used to affectionately call them her "nest". She was always happiest when her nest was all together. On the front door is a sign that reads "Nana and Pop Pop's nest...where the flock gathers." This 'mother bird' was a faithful attender of all of her kids' and her grandkids' games. You could always find her in the stands cheering them on. She loved to make holidays special and worked hard to make her home a place that was a haven of love and comfort. Sandy was so proud of her family, and nothing on earth, apart from the Lord, meant more to her. Everything that she did was for their benefit; to show support, love and to ease whatever difficulties they may be going through.

Sandy was selfless and usually had other people in mind. She was very generous to those around her and loved to support missionaries and supported several children from Compassion International. Sandy was very personable and transparent and was not afraid to show her weaknesses. Everyone felt comfortable around her and she easily gained other's respect and appreciation. As a cancer survivor, she also helped and encouraged many people as they went through the struggles of cancer treatment. She was always positive and upbeat and possessed a quick and heart-warming smile. Sandy will be greatly missed, not only by her family, but by the many that knew her as a friend.

The beloved wife of over 60 years of Christian Pedersen, Sandy is survived by her children, Erik Pedersen and his wife Bahira and Karin Burke and her husband Brian; her grandchildren Kristian Pedersen, Kirsten Pedersen, Connor Pedersen and Aaron Burke; her brother Donald Farmer and wife Elaine and many loving nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Dora Pedersen.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Lafayette Federated Church, 180 Route 15, Lafayette New Jersey. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church. Interment will be on Monday, February 22, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Sparta Presbyterian Methodist Cemetery in Sparta, New Jersey.

Dear Chris, Karin, Erik & the entire family,
Our hearts were saddened to hear of the loss of your dear wife, mother & grandmother. Sandy was a longtime friend and sister in the Lord. We remember so many bible studies and prayer groups and sweet times of fellowship shared with her & the family throughout the years. Her gentle honesty, transparency and Love of the Lord inspired and encouraged us so many times.
She was an example to all who knew her of what a loving, giving wife, mother, mother in law and grandmother she was and a shining example of The Love of Christ to so many. Over the years we ve celebrated with the Pedersens and grieved with them as well. For we are the Body of Christ. But “we grieve not as those who have no hope” (1 Thess 4:13). We will see Sandy again. What a celebration that will be!!! Dearest Sandy, i can imagine the glow on your face as your Abba Father welcomed you home saying “well done good & faithful servant”. Until we meet again, Sandy & Vince

I knew Sandy from working with her husband Chris at the SJHS. She was a devoted wife and mother. Jesus Christ was the driving force and focus of their lives, which stood out so much. Loved Sandy's Christmas letter each year which highlighted their families activities. Sandy will be missed by all who knew her!

I worked with Sandy at the Faithful Source stores for over ten years and always enjoyed being around her. She was a hard worker who never shied away from any task. She was always warm and gracious to all the customers. This obituary paints a very real picture of Sandy; she was a wonderful woman of God. Blessings on Chris, Erik and Karin as they continue their journey looking forward until the day they meet her in heaven.

Sandy was the first person to reach out to me when we were looking for a church in the area years ago. I met her at LFC Bible study and she was so kind, transparent and encouraging. She always had a kind word, talked to our kids, shared gum or candies in church with them when they were small. She was such a warm caring person who always seemed to make sure everyone else was comfortable before herself. Our families spent some time together during our years at the church and I will always remember that fondly. Sending prayers to the family.

Sandy was the answer to a prayer when my young family began attending Lafayette Federated Church many years ago. She reached out and introduced herself to me and that was the beginning of our family’s attending the church. Sandy was a beautiful soul whose love for the Lord was always evident. Praying for her family who she deeply loved.

Sandy - You were the Sibling a brother would have wanted. Smart, beautiful, played the piano better than me, homecoming Queen, of course I would not be a Queen, POPULAR plus!!, college and a beautiful family. I told you how much I loved you and even though we both agreed you were spoiled, I said it was OK! One of us had to be spoiled so it might as well be you. Right? Sorry!! you are sleeping now. When the Trumpets sound and Jesus comes on a cloud and the dead, in Christ, will be raised first. That is you SIS!. What a wonderful day that will be. Love you and God Bless.
Your brother DON
