Born in Sugar Notch, Pennsylvania, and raised Wilkes-Barre, PA. Shirley moved to New Jersey in the 1950’s, she initially lived in Parsippany and lived in Boonton before moving to Newton. She was a Supervisor at U.S. Radium Corp. in Parsippany before her retirement.
Shirley was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church in Swartswood and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Fairfield.
The daughter of the late Lewis and Margaret (Burke) Elmy, Shirley was also predeceased by her husband, Joseph Krawietz; her niece, Shirley Swanson; as well as her siblings, Mary Dailey, Louis Elmy, Lorraine Wilson, Joan Bamrick and James Elmy. She is survived by her sister, Bernadette Dylski (John) of Wilkes-Barre, PA; her niece, Lynn Phlegar (Jay) of Newton; her great-niece, Ellissa Luksis of Columbia, MO; great-great-nephew, Jordan Luksis, her great-nephew, Kyle Phlegar (Kaitlin) of Fredon; her great-nephew, Kevin Swanson; her great-niece, Sara Swanson; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton, followed by a 4:30 p.m. memorial service, also at the funeral home.
