Thomas was born in New York City where he lived until high school when his family relocated to Hackensack, NJ. He worked as a Supervising Foreman with the NJ Department of Transportation for more than 30 years, primarily in the High Point and Riverdale areas. Thomas’ coworkers loving referred to him as “The Professor” as there was not an asphalt or paving question that could stump him.
In his younger years, Thomas enjoyed coaching his sons’ baseball, basketball and football teams. He loved sports and had a appreciation for classic cars. Thomas would frequently tinker with different projects, woodworking being one of them. He enjoyed riding around on his tractor and keeping an immaculate lawn.
Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Thomas R. and Martha (Muear) McLoughlin; and his beloved wife, Janet McLoughlin. He is survived by his sons, Victor J. McLoughlin and wife, Christine, and Thomas E. McLoughlin and wife, Dara; and his grandsons, Spencer, Russell, Garrett, Avery and Cole McLoughlin.
Services are private under the direction of Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Thomas’ memory to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr, Tampa, FL 33607, [email protected]. Online condolences may be offered at www.smithmccrackenfuneralhome.com.
