Born on September 22, 1927, in Sussex, NJ, Vivian was the daughter of the late James and Minnie (nee. VanGorden) Conklin. She graduated from Sussex High School.
With steady dedication and a gift for organization, Vivian built a working life marked by reliability and care. She served as an office manager at Selective Risk and Prudential, and later devoted herself to helping her husband operate the Newton Flower Shop in Newton for 27 years, work that reflected both her diligence and her quiet pride in serving others.
A committed presence in the community, Vivian was involved with the Culver Lake Golf Club, a member of the Former Kittatinny Hook and Ladder Co. (Now Newton Fire Department), and a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Newton. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star: Melchior Chapter, where she served as a Grand Officer and Grand Representative. In addition, she volunteered at Newton Memorial Hospital for over 20 years, offering her time with constancy and genuine concern for others.
Vivian found joy in the simple, lasting pleasures that bring people together. She cherished many holidays shared with family and friends, and she delighted in reading, crossword puzzles, playing card games, and traveling; pastimes that spoke to her thoughtful nature and enduring curiosity.
The beloved wife to the late, Floyd H. Straway, Vivian is survived by her children, Vicki Brown and Jay Straway and his wife, Denise; her grandchildren, Jacob James Straway and Marc Walker and his wife, Lori; her great-granddaughter, Jessica Walker and many loving nieces and nephews.
