William, affectionately known as Bill, was born in Dover on October 26, 1949 to the late Carl and Marion Banghart. As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for 60 years, Bill was the proud owner and operator of Bill’s Equipment Repair. He was also very involved in his community and served as the Fire Chief of Swartswood Fire Department, volunteered with the Stillwater Fire Department, and was a Fire Instructor in Morris, Sussex, and Warren counties. Known for his unwavering dedication and strong work ethic, Bill worked tirelessly through all hardships and built a reputation that inspired many.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Bill was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to travel and shared this passion with his grandchildren through trips to New England and the Grand Canyon. Bill even explored the country from coast to coast in a motorhome with his beloved wife and best friend, Connie. Together they were members of the Appalachian Motorcycle Association and enjoyed Sunday rides on Bill’s Harley. He was also a big fan of all things NASCAR.
Bill is predeceased by his cherished wife of 39 years, Connie L. Banghart; and his great-granddaughter Felicity Leigh Raymer, born sleeping; his sisters Dawn Wright and Melissa Banghart; and his brothers Butch, Billy & Christopher Banghart. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl Banghart; his son Daryl Banghart (Helaine); his siblings Timmy Banghart, Heather Banghart, Kurt Arands, and John Banghart; his grandchildren Kaylynn Fournell (Mark), Daisy Banghart (Kyle Nehrings), Devin Banghart, Ashley Jentzen, and Kaitlyn Raymer; his great-granddaughter Emilia Fournell; his aunt Delores (Joanie) Hodges; and many loving nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
A visitation for Bill will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 4 to 6 pm and 7 to 9pm at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton, NJ 07860, with a Firemen's Service and Military Honors at 8 pm.
