William was born August 18, 1934 in Frelinghuysen Township, NJ to the late William James and Helen Mae (Monroe) Gibbs and was a lifelong resident of Newton. He was employed by Selective Insurance Co. of Branchville for 12 years. Prior to his retirement in 1999, he worked in the maintenance department. Mr. Gibbs served in the US Army during the Korean conflict and the National Guard for the 102 armored C Company Tank division for 10 years. He was also a member of the Newton American Legion Post 86 and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sparta.
William is survived by his four children, William James Gibbs, III and his wife Dawn; Dawn Lee Rude; Timothy J. Gibbs and his wife Jean; Tammy L. De Mott and her husband Alvah, Sr.; his brother Harold Gibbs and his sisters Dorothy Padgett and Barbara Darrohn; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma Jean Gibbs, his parents and three brothers, Robert Gibbs, Edward Gibbs and Douglas DeAlmo and his grandson Timothy Gibbs.
