Bill was born in Madison Wisconsin on January 10, 1944. In his younger years, Bill loved to go horseback riding and was known to sing the song “Stewball was a Racehorse” by Peter, Paul, and Mary. H loved his dogs Sam, Kota, and considered himself an amateur cook. He loved to fish, pheasant hunt with his brother Jeff and son-in-law John and was an avid gun enthusiast and a member of the National Rifle Association.
He was predeceased by his father Martin Pittenger, mother Emma-Jean (Jean) (Malone) Pittenger and sister Peggy Sue (Pittenger) Decker. He is survived by his daughters Kelly and her husband John Washeleski of Simpson, PA, Stephanie and her husband John Lenihan of Sussex, NJ; his son Kit Pittenger of Newton, NJ; his sister Rhonda Owen and her husband Steve of Vero Beach, FL; his brothers, Jeff and his wife Kim Pittenger of Stillwater, NJ and Steve and his wife Tina Pittenger of Newton, NJ; his grandchildren, Taryn Lenihan, Kirby Lenihan, J.T. Lenihan, Angela Serino, Brett Serino, Matthew Pittenger and Abbie Washeleski; 8 great grandchildren; his aunts Betty DePuy of Frankford NJ, Louise Pittenger of Newton, NJ and Mary Malone of Lafayette, NJ and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton, NJ. Interment of cremains will be held at a later date at Vaughan Cemetery in Sparta, NJ.
