I am very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I met him about six years ago when I joined the Fort Erie Legion Concert Band and Bob was on tenor sax. He would have been about 85 then - more than twice my age then - and he could still blow that sax better than someone a lot younger. 
I remember him as soft-spoken with a sharp sense of humour and very gentlemanly. 
My condolences to his family and to his extended family of Niagara musicians he played with.

I did not know Bob personally, but am sure that he helped me march through St. Catharines, and back through the Armoury doors off Lake Street.  My deepest sympathy to Joan and her family.

To the Lanyon family, I first met Bob when I was 16 years old, when I played drums for my father, George Roach and his band.  In later years, I played trombone in the Lincoln and Welland Band and the Ambassadors and I enjoyed the friendship with Bob.  I truly miss those days.

Joan, my condolences to you and your family. I only joined the L&W band 3 years ago, but Bob played with my Grandfather. By sheer luck I sat beside him at a Christmas Dinner and he asked me if I was related to Julio Pontello. The next 30 minutes he shared a few funny stories. I was very lucky to have got to know him, we will always share our stories of Bob in the Band.

I will definitely miss our time spent playing clarinet together for all those years. He was my partner in crime and a very dear friend. Thoughts and prayers to the family and many friends he's made over the years.
