Donald James Shanks passed away at Eventide Nursing Home in Niagara Falls on May 26, 2026, at the age of 99. Predeceased by his loving wife Shirley, and eldest daughter Ronni Dingwall. Sadly missed by his daughters Deborah (Ray Lozano) Shanks, and Cynthia (Brian) Reid. Loving grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle to many.
Don was a past member of the Niagara Woodcarvers Association for many years.He was very active at Stamford Lane United Church in the choir, mens club and Tri-M Club
From 1953-1985 he was a teacher with the Niagara District School Board acting as vice principal and principal finishing his career at Heximer Avenue Public School. After his retirement he started Don's Lock & Key Service.

In keeping with Don's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service held at Stamford Lane United Church on Friday June 5th 2026 at 1:00pm with a visitation starting at noon.
