Drago Bicanic

Passed away peacefully at Niagara General Hospital on May 26, 2023, in his 80th year. Drago was the loving husband to Barica (nee Kasaic) of 55 years. Loving father of Caroline (Jeff) Warwick, Mary Bicanic (Fiore Costa). Cherished Dedo of Justus Tremblay (Ally) and Dylan Tremblay (Olivia). He was Predeceased by his mother Francika Bicanic. Loving brother Antun and Ana Novacic, uncle of Ivanna (Mark) Fortier, Luka and Mila, Martina (Steve) Sills, Milo and Cousin Anka Madzarac. Drago will be missed by the Krizmanic family in Croatia and Australia, the Turkalj family in Croatia, the Stefanac family in Canada, Croatia and Australia.

Drago came to Canada in 1968 with the vision for a better life. He came to Canada as a newlywed and very soon after had 2 daughters. He had a welder's ticket and the drive to live the dream. He had numerous jobs but eventually found a job at National Steel Car in Hamilton where he worked for 30 years until his retirement. Family was everything to Drago. He settled in Niagara Falls where he raised 2 daughters with his loving wife Barica. Drago adored his grandchildren and was always on the sidelines cheering them on. During his working career he enjoyed vacationing with his family in Northern Ontario where he could go hunting and fishing and on the odd occasion make moonshine.

In his retirement years he could be found riding his bike along the Niagara Parkway picking wild rosehips to make jam. Drago didn’t like to fly so they packed the car every year and made the trip straight through to Florida enjoying the weather and fishing in the Atlantic ocean. Passing along the love of fishing to his grandchildren and always posing for the perfect picture on the beach. Drago loved the outdoors and could virtually live off the land. His garden was pristine and was often our grocery store. In the winter he could be found picking grapefruit off the nearby tree and eating the fish that he caught.

In his last days he held the memories of the best times. Recalling times from 20 years ago with his grandchildren and even further with his family.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hetherington and Deans Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 10:00 am at 4673 Victoria Ave. Niagara Falls.
