

Passed away peacefully at Greater Niagara General in Niagara Falls on December 30, 2018 in his 92nd year. Predeceased by his wife Josipa (nee Astahos 2008). Survived by his daughters; Desanka Zivanovic and Ivanka Djuric of Australia and Liljana Djuric of Serbia and step-daughter Visnja Pintaric of Scarborough, Ontario and sister-in-law Angela Pavalec also of Scarborough, Ontario. George will be missed by his loving grandchildren and extended family in Australia, and his many friends here in Niagara Falls.
George was born in 1927 in the city of Zrenjanin in the province of Voyvodina of Yugoslavia and emigrated to Canada the early 1960's where he worked as an accomplished mechanic in the logging industry in northern BC, in the mining industry in Manitoba, as the owner of an auto body shop in Toronto, and finally, a groundskeeper and handyman for the Niagara Parks Commission. In his spare time, George loved to fish and to play the penny slots at the casino. He was a master sausage maker and gardener and he especially loved his hot peppers and his "goldenmarys".
George was a good friend to many. He was one of a kind. We will miss him.
The family will receive visitors at Hetherington and Deans Funeral Chapel, 5176 Victoria Ave. Niagara Falls on Friday January 4th, 2019 from 10-11:00am. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at 11:00 with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
