

Gerry passed away unexpectedly February 10th, 2013 while on vacation in Florida. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Cathy Westerhof and brother Roelf. Gerry is survived by his wife Diane Westerhof, son Glen Westerhof, (Jamie), grandchildren Katerina, Kassandra, Gerrit and daughter Tanya Westerhof. Stepsons Michael Arthur (Tara), step grandchildren Celeste, Lauren and Jordan Arthur (Stacey), step grandchildren Ashlyn and Rowan. Sisters Netty, Elza, Jeannet (Peter) and sister in law Jellie.
Gerry emigrated from Holland as a young man and graduated from Queens as an electrical engineer. His true passion was teaching and he taught technology courses at local secondary schools; Fort Erie, Centennial and Westlane until he retired at age 58. Many years later his students would still come up to him and say how much they enjoyed his classes. A natural athlete, Gerry loved competitive sports, yoga and being active. A talented soccer player, he did his best to pass on his skills as a coach for many years. At White Oaks he always played tennis to win and as an avid golfer, he enjoyed his Wednesday group at the Niagara Parks courses. Gerry was a long time member of St. Andrews United Church. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Family and friends will be received at Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel, 5176 Victoria Avenue on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 5645 Morrison Street, on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 1 PM with visitation from Noon to 1 PM in the church. Interment in Fairview Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Niagara Falls Humane Society would be appreciated.
