With saddened hearts the family of Bert Martin acknowledges his passing on his 78th birthday July 15, 2016, at Meadows of Dorchester. Born, raised and educated in Sask. he brought his young family to Niagara Falls in 1967 when he assumed the position of Director of Pharmacy at Greater Niagara General Hospital where he remained until his retirement. Subsequently, a number of local pharmacies benefitted from his retirement. Bert was a founding member of the Pharmacy Assistant program at Niagara College, and spent many years as the regional rep for the provincial hospital drug purchasing group.
An avid sports fan, he remained loyal to “his” teams - Sask. Roughriders, Chicago Black Hawks and NY Yankees. During his vacations he could be found with the trailer in many campgrounds, and in later years cruising the Caribbean. A strongly declared “cat hater”, he always permitted his family to enjoy their felines.
Survived by best friend and loving wife of 54 years, Sandi, daughter Michelle Blake (Dave), son Geoff (Amy), sister Anne Martin of Regina, sister-in-law Marie Martin of Kelowna and brother-in-law Howie Ward (Jeanne) of Calgary. Wonderful grandpa of Martin grandchildren Jessica, Talon and Chloe. Step-grandpa of Brendan Blake, Douglas Blake (Roxie) and great-grandpa to Mason and Logan, as well as uncle to nieces Tracy Martin of Vancouver, Natalie Fear (Sid) of Calgary and Nicole Shih (Jeff) of St. Albert, nephew Troy Martin of Vancouver, and their families. Honored godfather of Donald Harris.
Predeceased by parents Bert & Kay Martin of Regina and brother Jim of Kelowna, as well as five four-legged fluffy “nice little girls” who will meet him on the Rainbow Bridge.
Bert’s family will receive visitors at Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel, 5176 Victoria Ave., Niagara Falls on Wed. July 20, 2016 – 7:00 – 9:00 pm, and Thurs, July 21, 2016 - 9:30 – 10:45 am.
