

TRIANO, Howard Arthur 'Howie' - Passed away at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Wednesday May 31, 2017. He was born March 16th, 1933 to Arthur and Doris Triano in Niagara Falls. He attended St. Patrick’s and NFCVI schools and graduated from the University of Windsor in 1957. He received his Masters of Education degree from Niagara University in 1971. Mr. Triano was an outstanding athlete and excelled in basketball, playing for Canada at the 1959 Pan-American games and was inducted into the University of Windsor’s Hall of Fame and the Niagara Falls Hall of Fame. He retired from education in 1990 after 18 years as a principal at Lord Elgin, Stamford and A.N. Myer. Prior to those schools, he taught at Glendale High School in Tillsonburg and NFCVI. During those years, and well into his retirement, he coached a variety of sports, mentored many players and positively impacted the lives of many. Mr. Triano was active in the school systems and the community, having served on the Board of Directors for the YMCA and the Greater Niagara General Hospital, the Board of Directors for the Ontario Federation of Secondary School Athletic Association and as Director of SOSSA, for thirteen years. He served as Director of the Ontario Athletic Leadership Camp for many summers. He also served on the Board of Governors of Brock University for nine years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Muriel, son Jay of Phoenix, daughter Jody of Burlington, son Jeff and his wife Melissa of Abilene, Texas, his siblings Larry of Queenston, Jim of B.C. and sister Sandy of Welland. His grandchildren Courtney, Jessica, Dustin, Riley, Dackota and Lily Triano and Brady Heslip are the stars in his life. The family will receive friends at PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. visiting Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service in celebration of his life will be held on Monday at 1 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
