John is survived by his wife, Joan Mary (D'arcy) Longmuir, who married on October 20, 1952 in Irvine, Scotland. He will be deeply missed by his son Ian Longmuir (Sue Biamonte); his son Neil Longmuir (Arden Panchyshyn); and his daughter Allyson Longmuir (Neal De Groote); his granddaughter Chelsea Longmuir, his grandson Grayson Adam Longmuir and his grandson Beckett John Longmuir. John was preceded in death by his son Alan Longmuir (Karen Kinnenberg).
John served with the British Royal Engineers from 1945-1948 in North Africa (Cairo, Egypt) and Palestine, called up May 30, 1945 and honourably discharged March 19, 1948.
John was a machinist by trade, apprenticing and working at Kilwinning Engine Works for William Morgan & Company Ltd. He also worked at Irvine Shipyards for Ayrshire Dockyard Co. Ltd. until November 14, 1952. John emigrated to Niagara Falls, Ontario and retired on September 1, 1989 after working 38 years for Nabisco in Niagara Falls, NY.
John was a Mason and a member of the "Mother Lodge #0" in Kilwinning, Scotland, joining the Clifton Lodge #254 in Niagara Falls, Ontario upon emigrating.
A funeral mass for John will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Scapular, 6557 Thorold Stone Road, Niagara Falls, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
