A cherished son of Ireland, John was born in Galway on August 5, 1934. A loving brother, devoted father, and caring husband, John always put his family first. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Gudrun, children Siobhan, Nuala, Michael, Bronwyn, and Gráinne, grandchildren Emma, Olivia, Anna, Declan, and Logan, siblings Willy, Maura, Micéal, Anne, Teresa, and Brian, brother-in-law to Kathleen, John, Marguerite, and Miriam, father-in-law to Aaron, Linda, and Ryan, and Uncle John to many nieces and nephews. He joins his father Michael, mother Ita, older brother Paddy and his wife Nora, and too soon taken baby sister. We know they are taking their tea together now, having a laugh.
A proud member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, John loved his work with the City of Niagara Falls as the Health and Safety Administrator, and before that as an engineer with the Ministry of Transportation, supervising the building of roads and bridges in northern Ontario. Always involved in the church, he was an active member of the Holy Name Society. In his retirement years, he devoted time to the PTA of Saint Paul High School. A natural athlete all his life, John’s golf game was unmatched, and he excelled at rugby, tennis, and was an avid marathon runner.
John has always been the gentlest of souls, patient, calm, and never raised his voice or spoke poorly of anyone. Graceful and caring, a role model of kindness to his children and grandchildren. John was a man of deep faith, so please send him your prayers in whatever form holds meaning to you. He will accept them with the grace and gratitude he lived by in his long life, hopeful that you continue your own life with kindness.
Deepest of gratitude to the wonderful care team at Millennium Trail Manor, whose devotion to John and all the residents under their care is extraordinary, and given with their whole hearts.
