Mary “Rose” MacDonald (née Campbell) passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, at the remarkable age of 95. Rose was the loving and devoted wife of the late Alexander “Sandy” MacDonald, who predeceased her in March 2010. Together, they built a life rooted in love and mutual respect, raising four children: David (Debra), Darin (Marisa), Laurie, and Derek (Denyse). Her role as a mother brought her great pride and joy, and she treasured every moment spent with her family. She was the fourth of eight children born to James and Annie Laurie Campbell. She was a cherished sister, predeceased by her siblings Jack (Louise), Marion “Ditta” (Duncan), Catherine, and Erwin. Rose is survived by her brothers Daniel, Omer (Maude), Jim, and by several nieces and nephews with whom she shared countless memories and a lifelong bond. Rose’s legacy continues through her six grandchildren—Rob, Katie (Chris), Jake, Jarod, Nathan, and Tyler—each of whom brought her immense happiness and pride. The family was blessed with a recent addition, her beloved great-granddaughter Raphaella.
Rose will be remembered for her grace, generous spirit, and deep devotion to the people and traditions she loved. She found her greatest joy in family and in creating a welcoming home. She was a gifted hostess who took pride in bringing people together, whether for a holiday gathering or a simple afternoon visit. Like most Cape Bretoners, her kitchen was the heart of her home, and she expressed love through her cooking and baking - meals made with care, recipes perfected over time, and desserts shared freely with others. A woman of strong faith, Rose was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Church and an active participant in the Catholic Women’s League. Her involvement reflected her belief in service, community, and acts of kindness. She lived her faith through compassion, humility, and generosity toward those around her. Rose will be fondly remembered for her warmth, her attentiveness to others, and the sense of comfort she brought wherever she went. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, the traditions she cherished, and the love she so freely gave. The family would like to thank all friends and extended family for their support and condolences during this difficult time. Particular thanks to the entire staff of Chippawa Creek at Bella Care Residence, as well as to Dr. D. Girard for their compassion and care provided to Mom over the years. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish may make a memorial donation to Palliative Care or the Tender Wishes Foundation.
