Patrick was one of the most special people I've ever known.  He may have been a bit of a rascal, but his heart was in the right place and a finer steward of Mother Nature could not be found.  Your family and friends will miss you.  Jane Oldham Austin

I will take up a lot of space here.  But Patrick Murphy deserves a little space even if it's only cyberspace.

I remember the day he left home. Dad and I were saving hay back in the field near the castle. I still see that young handsome man walking across the hayfield.  He exchanged a few words with Dad about the boat to Liverpool.  They shook hands and Dad said good luck amac.  I still see that same handsome man walking away and never looking backlike he knew his destiny was somewhere else.  Dad did what so many Irish parents over the years have done.  He kept on saving the hay.  His son was never coming back, that he knew, but it was a fine day and the hay needed tending.  I felt sorry for both of them that day.

Padraic hung around London for a few years. One day he would be a welder the next he would be a school youth organizer.  I think he even did a stint at the Berlin Wall.  Next thing we heard back home was that Canada would be his next stop.  

Once he arrived there he knew it would be his permanent stop. He married Doreen and during the seventies they visited home a lot.  We had some good times.  During the eighties I was living in the Washington DC area.  Padraic and his new partner Gloria would visit and we had some good times there too.        

Patrick Murphy had no ambition to be rich, famous or important.  You could never mistake him for an over achiever.  But you know something he over achieved is his own peculiar way.   

Over the years I would tell friends about the brother I had in Niagara Falls who grew roses, kept homing pigeons, was a member of something called the Shriners, was a beekeeper, was president of the nut association and was totally into the care and feeding of exotic rare birds. 

He was a rare bird himself and sad for the world that he has gone extinct.  The species is finished.  Maybe God said to Himself my job here is done or maybe God forgot His job because He was having a Guinness with Patrick Murphy.  

The quintessential funny Irishman who made family out of everyone around him is gone. Two things I noticed at his funeralthere was a lot of crying and when I said to people thanks for being good to my brother the answer was always the same I would do anything for Pat.

Sad to read of the passing of dear Pat, he was a good man. I wish I had been able to visit him more often over the years. I have my memories and will pray for his advancement in the next world.
