Terry Beck, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother, passed away on December 1st, 2022, three years after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Her 83 years were filled with adventures, several careers, books, golf, bowling, crafts, and most importantly, her family and friends.
Born September 10, 1939 in Niagara Falls, Ontario she was the first of four children of Helen (White) and W. Craig Lindsay. She graduated from high school at age of 16, then completed a BA at McGill. Wishing to see the world, she became a flight attendant, but quickly realized that flying regularly was not for her. Her second career was nursing, and she completed a master’s degree in nursing research at Yale University. It was there that she met and married Bill Beck and soon thereafter had their first child, Allison. Bill’s career took them to Pasadena, CA where they had their second child. Just six weeks after Jeremy’s birth, the family moved to Memphis, TN and remained there for many years. This was Terry’s opportunity to pursue yet another career, obtaining a JD from Memphis State University. Terry spent the next phase of her life practicing employment discrimination law at the EEOC, raising her children, and obtaining her US citizenship.
After retirement, Terry moved back to Niagara Falls and spent the next 15 years with her sisters Suzanne and JoAnne, bowling, golfing, volunteering, visiting her children and grandchildren, or hosting family and friends up until the very end. Terry was a smart, strong, fiercely independent woman who touched the lives of many, even though she was soft spoken and shunned attention.
Terry was predeceased by her parents Helen (White) Lindsay and W. Craig Lindsay, and her brother John Lindsay and his wife JoAnne. Terry leaves behind her children Allison (Patrick) and Jeremy, two grandchildren, Sam and Callum, her sister Suzanne Meginnis (Wayne), and brother Mark Lindsay, and nieces Terry Meginnis, Heather (Rachel) Lindsay and Andrea Lindsay. Also left to mourn is the family of her cousin David “Frosty” Frost (Bonnie, Bill, and Anna Lea) who also recently passed. Additionally left to grieve are her many golf and bowling friends in Niagara Falls.
A celebration of life is planned for the spring of 2023. If you wish to honor Terry, please feel free to make a donation to the Niagara Falls Public Library in honor of her love of reading at https://my.nflibrary.ca/Info/SupportNFPL or to the American Cancer Society at https://www.cancer.org/.
