Wayne Melrose was a loyal, caring, family man and friend. Beloved husband of Bonnie—the love of his life—for 35 years. Loving brother of Cheryl (Bill) Cooper. Brother-in-law of Donnie Dwyer and Ernestine Melrose. Uncle to Suzanne, David (Angela), Victoria (Kyle), Jay (Elizabeth), Barry (Christine), Christopher and Edward. Predeceased by his father George, mother Margaret, “mom & dad”(in-love) Evelyn and Don Dwyer, brother Richard, niece Sherri and great nephew Malcolm. He will be sadly missed by his many great nieces/nephews, new great-great nephew, close family friend Claire McKeown, and the surviving Manson clan (of which he was a deeply valued, laugh-sharing, card-playing member).
Wayne loved the outdoors—fishing, camping, swimming, gardening, golfing and family picnics. He and Bonnie enjoyed good times with good friends at their trailer in Byng Conservation Area, Dunnville; and were active members of nearby St. Michael’s Parish (via long, pleasant drives with Keith and Marg, off-season).
“Being there” for those in need of a helping hand is what brought Wayne his greatest pleasure.
Fixing, moving, driving (including Don’s early morning (5 a.m.) weekly jaunts to the Casino) ... Doing whatever, eagerly ... Always, lovingly, helping care for Bonnie’s poodles (however barky).
He was a born kidder—the only one who could call his sister Cheryl “Red” and get away with it.
A Canada Post retiree with 35 years of service—forever in service to others in his personal life.
He valued his many close friendships—his ‘family of friends’—near and far. And will be missed!
As Wayne wished, cremation has taken place and an interment service will be held at Fairview Cemetery on Saturday, March 2nd at 11 a.m. Friends are invited to gather (via main entrance on Stanley) together—from all directions, toward the site—to the sound of the piper. Wayne’s family will receive friends for A Celebration of His Life on Sunday, March 3rd (1-4 p.m.) at Optimist Club Hall, 7085 Morrison (at Dorchester), Niagara Falls.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Heart & Stroke or Project Share would be appreciated by the family—in memory of Wayne’s caring ways.
