He was born on July 9, 1928, in East Haven, the son of Charles E. and Ruth Page Aldrich.
Mr. Aldrich attended the University of Connecticut and was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served as a Lieutenant with the Army National Guard. He retired as Director of Advanced Systems Technology, at General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division after a 40 year career. As Director, he oversaw a number of major areas, including Proposal Development, Integrated Electric Weapons Systems and the Newport Engineering Office. Prior to his appointment, he served as Chief Engineer in Systems Technology, overseeing design efforts involving a variety of electrical, navigational and communication systems, including the Tomahawk Vertical Launch System. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a former Commander of the National Guard Battery D that was stationed at Camp Niantic in the 1950‘s. He also enjoyed his membership in the Prop Busters Model Airplane Club.
He is survived by his wife Judith Hillyer Aldrich; his daughter Jane Aldrich Williams and her husband Dr. Richard Williams of Woodland Hills, CA; his son Jeffery Aldrich and his wife Patricia Aldrich of Salem, and their children Megan and Ian Aldrich.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday June 30th at 2pm in St. John’s Episcopal Church, 400 Main St., Niantic. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to St. John’s Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 810, Niantic, CT 06357.
