He was born on December 2, 1982, in New London, the son of Scott and Robyn (Way) Brailey of Fenton, MO.
Daniel graduated from Montville High School in 2001. He went to Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts College in St. Peter’s, MO and worked most of his adult life as a chef.
Daniel was an avid reader. He loved music, especially music of his parents’ generation. Daniel had a love of family and a strong interest in his family’s history. Daniel enjoyed being with his younger cousins and friend’s children, and they adored him. His friends and family will remember him for his good heart. He often wanted to be there for others but was not always able.
Daniel suffered many, many years with substance abuse and depression. As a family, his brother Jason and parents fought to find him treatment and keep him safe. His family wishes to help others who are suffering by asking that donations be made to Community Speaks Out, a local organization formed to provide help with process of getting addicted family members treatment through financial and logistical assistance, foster community support, awareness and education on addiction and addiction prevention.
In addition to his parents, Daniel is survived by his brother, Jason Brailey of Groton; grandfather, Donald Chapman, Sr., of Waterford; aunts and uncles, Judith Way of Florida, Glenn and Cheryl Way of Waterford, Robin Brailey of Gales Ferry, Donald and Lori Chapman of Waterford and Donna Devlin of Waterford. He was predeceased by his grandparents Harold and Margaret Way, Majorie Chapman and Roger Brailey.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, October 20th, from 11am-noon at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Ave., Niantic. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to: Community Speaks Out, 214B Thames St., Groton, Ct 06340, communityspeaksout.org.
