

New Haven- Edward Anthony Carrillo Hernandez, 71, East Lyme, died on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in Yale-New Haven Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born on September 13, 1944 in Jerome, AZ to Isidiro and Mary (Carrillo) Hernandez. Ed and Terry (Littlefield) Hernandez were married on May 17, 1969 in New London, CT. He honorably served our country in the US Navy retiring as a Chief in 1992 after 28 years of combined active and reservist duty. Ed served aboard the USS Grant in Hawaii and the USS Seahorse commissioning crew here in Groton, Connecticut. Following his active Naval career he returned to Arizona working along side his father at the Magma Copper Mine in San Manuel, Arizona which he loved. After returning back East, he was employed by Electric Boat for a few years as part of the STO crew, then as a Planner at the Millstone Station Unit One until 2000 when he retired. After a few years of retirement and subcontracting, he joined the East Lyme School System as a custodian and retired June 1, 2015 after 10 years of service. Ed was a member of several area churches over the years: St. Matthias in East Lyme, St. Joseph's & St. Mary's in New London and St. Agnes in Niantic. He also was a member of the Subvets in Groton & the American Legion in Niantic.
He leaves behind his wife Terry, daughter Robin Hernandez of Norwich and son Timothy Hernandez of New Hampshire. Three grandsons, Kevin, Ben, and Noah Hernandez, all of New Hampshire and his brother Steven Hernandez of Phoenix, AZ, along with many nieces and nephews. His Grandog, Scooter, will greatly miss watching TV, eating treats and long walks with his Papa. Ed was predeceased by his sister S. Christina Hernandez and both his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11:00am in St. Agnes Church in Niantic. Interment will follow in East Lyme Cemetery.
