

Janet was born June 2, 1916 in Willimantic, CT, the daughter of the late Harry Clifford and Lucy Olivet Bill Brown. She was also predeceased by Rodney Williams Hewitt, her
beloved husband of 59 years, 3 brothers, Harry C., Thurston A., and Robert G. Brown, and a niece, Eleanor V. Maynard.
After graduating from Windham High School, class of 1934, Janet married Rodney on June 12,1937 in Willimantic, CT. They briefly resided in East Orange, NJ before and after World War II. During the war, Janet worked in the Auditor’s Department at the University of Connecticut.
In1949, Janet and Rodney moved back to Prospect Street, Willimantic. She was a homemaker, an active member of the First Congregational Church of Willimantic, a member of the Board of Religious Education, co-leader of Brownie Troop 119, and Troop Committee Chairwoman of Girl Scout Troop 1.
In 1965, Janet and Rodney moved to the Pine Grove section of Niantic where her great grandfather, Amos W. Bill, built the first permanent cottage in 1882. They wintered in Punta Gorda, FL from 1979-1996.
Janet became a member of the Flanders Baptist and Community Church of East Lyme in 2002. Their support and friendship are sincerely appreciated. She particularly enjoyed participating in Community Circle and Bible Study activities. Her interests included gardening, bird watching, crossword puzzles, Turner Classic movies, rooting for the Yankees, and treating her family to dinner at the Shack and Lenny and Joes.
She is survived by her daughter Judith Ann Hewitt Truncali and her husband Paul of Clinton, CT, her sister-in-law Louise A. Timchak of Port Charlotte, FL, two nieces, Barbara A. Vida of Pompton Lakes, NJ and Candace F. Shepherd of Remington, IN, two nephews, Thurston A. Brown of Bozrah, CT and Paul Timchak of Romeoville, IL and a grand niece, Kimberly R. Maynard of Niantic, CT.
A funeral service followed by a luncheon will be held at the Flanders Baptist and Community Church on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 11AM. Burial will be at the New Willimantic Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
