Eleanor “El” Yuhas of East Lyme died peacefully Sunday, June 19, with family at her side. She was born in Petersburg, Va., in April of 1937, the daughter of the late Edward Bernard Patram and Hazel Garrett Patram.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Edward Patram and Frances Patram Huber. She leaves behind her husband, the love of her life, William “Bill” Yuhas Sr., whom she married Sept. 24, 1955, in New York. Eleanor is also survived by her four sons and their families, whom she generously loved and lived her life for. She leaves her son William Yuhas Jr. of East Lyme and the children he shares with Barbara Ann Yuhas; William (Melissa) Yuhas, Angela (Rob) Russo, and Rocky Yuhas. A son Thomas (Terri) Yuhas of Niantic, and their children, Joshua (Katie) Yuhas, Ashley (Cory) Perkins. A son Alan (Annemarie) Yuhas of Niantic and their children, Joel and Anna Yuhas. A son Timothy (Donna) Yuhas of Niantic and their children, Duane and Jessica Yuhas, and Stacy (Jeff) Jodoin. She leaves great-grandchildren, Natalie, Michael, Mackenzie, Reese, Walker, Dominic, Lily, Aria, Noah, Violet, and Edmund. Eleanor also leaves her lifelong friends and sisters-in-law, Barbara Yuhas Shasha of Niantic and Teeta Patram of Burgaw, N.C. She leaves many precious friends, family, and countless others in the community as she worked 41 years in the East Lyme school system feeding lunch to many children, year after year.
Although she is no longer with us on earth, heaven has gained a true angel as they can’t get much better than her! At her home on Mill Road, Eleanor’s kitchen was rarely empty and always welcomed everyone and anyone to her table where she would say, “It will be your own damn fault if you leave hungry.” Although everyone she met was “darlin” or “sweetie,” her heart always focused on the family, where she left a legacy of memories around keeping family traditions. Her celebrating holidays, like our Christmas Eve “Open house,” calling and singing happy birthday every year, sending cards, and religiously without fail, will be forever remembered by her loved ones.
There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, at the East Lyme Cemetery, followed by a reception for family and friends at the American Legion Post 128, York Ave., Niantic. Calling hours will be private for the family preceding the service.
