Born in Mount Vernon, New York on May 22, 1923, Jeanne went to high school in Katonah, New York, where she met George Brion Foulke. She was married to her high school sweetheart for over 50 years, until he passed away in 1995. During World War II Jeanne worked as a civilian radar inspector for both the Navy and the Army in California. After the war, Jeanne and George raised three children: Gordon, Bruce and Douglas, eventually moving to Pawling, New York, where Jeanne worked for 24 years as the first female Cost Estimator for the Pawling Corporation. During their time in Pawling, Jeanne and George would take the children to Truro, Massachusetts camping near the beach. In the early days of their marriage, Jeanne and George used to camp on the beach, so it was that love of Truro beaches that brought them to live full time in Truro beginning in 1986.
Jeanne began a new phase in her life as a strong advocate for affordable housing beginning in 1987, in what was then called the Creative Housing Partnership of Wellfleet and Truro. Eventually Jeanne became the Chairwoman of the Truro Housing Authority, helping to bring in more than a million dollars in grant funds for affordable housing in Truro. Jeanne was also Vice-chair of the Friends of the Council on Aging, Truro, and past Treasurer of the Truro Public Library. In 2018 the Truro Historical Society recognized Jeanne as a Living Legacy in a wonderful exhibit at the Highland Museum.
Jeanne loved the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and the University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball team. Many wonderful moments were spent watching her teams play, especially when her grandkids were around. But most of all Jeanne loved her friends and neighbors in Truro. Living hard by the Atlantic was her most favorite thing on earth.
Jeanne is survived by her three sons, Gordon, Bruce and Douglas, her grandchildren Trisha Foulke, Jamie Donlon, Jennifer Foulke, Perry Foulke, Briona Foulke, Devon Foulke, Ryann Foulke and Jameson Foulke, and great-grandchildren Riley Donlon and Declan Donlon.
The family is planning a private ceremony in May. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Friends of the Truro Public Library PO Box 357, North Truro, MA 02652.
