Pat was born on November 22, 1931, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, one of three daughters of William and Eileen Rea of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Pat’s oldest sister Joan was born in Belfast, and her middle sister Marjorie in Southampton, England, prior to the family’s move to Toronto. Pat attended high school there, and first met her husband-to-be Thomas Rogerson at a cricket match in 1953. Tom was the ace bowler for the winning side, having excelled at the sport in his native Scotland. They were married in 1956 and eventually settled in Old Lyme and then Niantic, CT.
Pat believed in a life of service to others, and manifested that passion through stints as President of the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern CT, along with the Vestry Senior Warden position at her beloved St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Old Lyme. Pat also spent many hours volunteering at Saint Ann’s Nearly New Shop, a retail store whose mission is to help fund outreach programs for the Church. She was an avid golfer and tennis player during her years at the Old Lyme Country Club. She was also an enthusiastic gardener, and knew the name of just about every tree, shrub and flower under the sun. Besides being an avid reader, perhaps Pat’s biggest passion was watching her favorite sports teams including the New York Yankees and football Giants, along with UConn Huskies basketball.
When Tom passed away in 2004, Pat became Owner and President of Advanced Materials Inc. She insisted on doing the corporate bookkeeping into her nineties, making sure that the family business ran smoothly. She loved having her office in the loft of her condo, where she would later relax and read while watching a ballgame.
Patricia is survived by her sons David Rogerson of Niantic and Andrew Rogerson and his wife Ann of Lakewood Ranch, FL, along with grandchildren Andrew (‘Drew’) and Katharine, and daughter-in-law Leah Rogerson of Madison, CT. Her nephews Dennis and Martin and niece Pat all live in the greater Toronto area.
In addition to her husband Thomas, she was predeceased by her son Cameron Rogerson and her sisters Marjorie Rea and Joan Kilmury.
A memorial service for Patricia will be held on Saturday, September 6th at St. Ann's Episcopal Church, Shore Road in Old Lyme at 11:00 A.M., followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.
