Richard D. Love

Mr. Love was born on January 23, 1924 in Ansonia , CT the son of Robert and Ellen Windisch Love. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He married Shirley Baier in New London on September 4, 1948. He was a partner in Hopkins and Love Insurance and Real Estate.

Mr. Love graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1950. While a student at the University he was a starting pitcher on the UCONN varsity baseball team. To this date he is still listed in the record book in three categories for his accomplishments. Mr. Love was a member of the Niantic Rotary Club, president of the Chamber of Commerce, and president of the East Lyme Little League for a number of years.

Mr. Love is survived by his wife of 63 years Shirley Love, and four children, Richard E. Love of Waterford, Susan LaVolpicelo and her husband John of NH, Barbara McLlarky and her husband Les of East Lyme, and Janet Love of Waterford, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Mr. Love was very much a family man, he loved all of his family very, very much. He was especially proud of his heritage and his legacy. We will all miss him sorely and strive to live up to his high standards.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 10:30am in St. John Episcopal Church in Niantic. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in Niantic. Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2011 from 3:00 until 5:00pm in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Ave. , Niantic , CT 06357 .
