He was born on February 22, 1944, in Columbia, SC, the son of Eugene and Harriet Whittaker.
Rich graduated from Quinnipiac College with a major in biology. He worked in clinical engineering at New Britain General Hospital as well as other locations in Connecticut. Throughout his life he enjoyed tinkering and repairing everything around the house. In his later years, he enjoyed going out for weekly breakfasts with his Giants Neck Heights buddies, bird watching, and spending time with his granddaughter and her dogs.
Richard is survived by his wife, Carol Ann; son, Benjamin Whittaker and his wife Shari of Niantic; granddaughter Avery; and sister Pamela Trimble of Calhoun, LA. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Winninger.
The family would like to thank the personnel at Tri Town Foods in East Lyme, as well as the staff at Lawrence and Memorial ICU for their kindness and care.
