Robert Joseph Jakubiel

East Lyme - Robert J. "Bob" Jakubiel, of Niantic, entered into rest Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital after suffering a stroke.Bob was born March 16, 1938, and was predeceased by his daughter, Sandy; and his son, Scott.He is survived by his beloved cat, Petey; and friends, George Grimes, Matt Brown, Frank Chisholm, and Wayne Shelton.Bob was an Army veteran and owner of Americana Properties as well as being a life member of the NRA, past president of the Niantic Sportsman's Club and the East Lyme Chamber of Commerce. Bob also served for a number of years as the building inspector for East Lyme and Salem.Bob was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman, and an authority on antique firearms and coins. Bob loved Coast Guard football, clamming, deep sea fishing, and the exquisite sunsets off Niantic Bay.He will be sadly missed by his friends and acquaintances who can take comfort that Bob is enjoying his eternal fishing tripThere will be no services per Bob's request.Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, Niantic, is handling the arrangements.Please make a donation in Bob's memory to: Nicholas Parahus Fund @East Lyme Senior Center; Care and Share of East Lyme; Friends of Feral Felines, c/o Dr. Lee Carpenter, Niantic Animal Hospital or East Lyme Historical Society.
