She was born July 12, 1906 in Plymouth, CT, the daughter of Charles B. Watrous and Annie Webster Watrous. The family moved to Niantic in 1918.
She graduated from Chapman Technical High School, Class of 1924 and attended the University of Connecticut, majoring in dietetics.
On December 31, 1928, she married Dwight W. Beckwith. He predeceased her in 1962. She was also predeceased by a brother Herbert N. Watrous who died in 1934 and a sister Meriam Watrous who died in 1911.
She is survived by a son Wilbur Beckwith of Niantic, a daughter Margaret B. Stone and her spouse Fred W. Stone of Gales Ferry, a granddaughter Nancy Taylor and her spouse Geoffrey Taylor of New London, her grandson Scott MacDonald of Waveland, MS, her two great grandchildren Corey Perkins of Bangor, ME and Amy Perkins of Washington, DC.
Ruth was a member of the Niantic Community Church since 1921, the Friends of Smith-Harris and the East Lyme Historical Society.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 22nd at 2pm in the Niantic Community Church, 170 Pennsylvania Ave., Niantic. A reception will follow at the church. In case of inclement weather call the church at 860-739-6208 to confirm that the service will be held.
