William “Bill” Yuhas, 90, of East Lyme, reunited with the love of his life Eleanor Aug. 9, 2022, peacefully with his family by his side. Bill was born in East Lyme, Jan. 5, 1932, to the late George and Anna Yuhas.
Bill graduated from Chapman Tech in New London, Class of 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May of 1952. He was a Korean War veteran. He met the love of his life Eleanor Patram of New York, while in the service and married her Sept. 24, 1955. They resided on Mill Road in East Lyme, for the past 59 years. Bill was employed by General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division, Groton, where he worked for 33 years retiring in 1994. He was also a member of the Niantic American Legion Post 128 and a member of the Waterford VFW Post 6573.
Bill, in his younger years, was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed bowling and playing cards with his many friends. He held a special place in his heart for the New York Yankees and UConn women’s basketball. We will cherish our many years of Christmas Eve toasts with his famous homemade Baileys. Bill was a devoted family man. His love for his children and each and every grandchild will always be cherished. Whether he was coaching his son’s baseball teams, down at the brook teaching them to fish, throwing a baseball, tossing a frisbee, giving a ride on the mower, sharing a KitKat, scrambling eggs, cleaning lobsters, shucking scallops or simply singing them a song, the list is endless for Bill’s love of his family.
Bill is predeceased by his loving wife Eleanor; and eight siblings. He is survived by his sister Barbara Shasha; son William Yuhas Jr. and Debbie; son Tom Yuhas (Terri); son Alan Yuhas (Annemarie); son Tim Yuhas (Donna); and daughter-in- law Barbara Yuhas. Bill is also survived by grandchildren: Josh Yuhas ( Katie), William Yuhas III (Melissa), Ashley Perkins (Cory), Angela Russo (Rob), Rocco Yuhas, Duane Yuhas, Jessica Yuhas and fiancé Andrew, Stacy Jodoin (Jeff), Joel Yuhas and Anna Yuhas; along with great-grandchildren: Reese, Dominic, Walker, Natalie, Lily, Aria, Noah, Michael, Mackenzie, Violet and Edmund.
Although he is no longer with us, our memories will last a lifetime. “Rest easy, our beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.”
The family would also like to give their heartfelt thanks to Bride Brook Health and Rehabilitation Center, the East Lyme Ambulance Association, the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Connecticut, Dr. David Thompson, Beacon Hospice Care, and a special thanks to his buddy Sam from Companions and Homemakers for whom we will forever be grateful to for providing the level of care that allowed us to bring our father/grandfather home for his remaining days.
There will be a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. Sunday Aug. 14, at the East Lyme Cemetery, followed by a reception at the American Legion Post 128, 16 York Avenue, Niantic. Calling hours will be private for the family preceding the service.
