

Albert Henry Hitt, Jr., passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at his home in Destrehan, LA surrounded by his family. He was born on May 2, 1938, and was a native of Bay St. Louis, MS prior to moving to Mobile, Alabama at a young age where he graduated from McGill Institute and attended the University of Alabama. He served in the United States Marine Corp Reserve from 1956 to 1964. He lived in Laplace and Destrehan for over fifty years and was a retired retail merchant formerly with TG&Y and Wal-Mart. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Red Church Council # 3634 having served as Grand Knight and was a Fourth Degree Knight. He attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and was a faithful worshipper in the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel for many years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Rosemary Rodriguez Hitt, his parents, Albert Henry Hitt, Sr. and Margaret Fahey Smith Hitt, and brother, Richard Hitt (Pauline).
He is survived by his five children, Albert Hitt, III (the late Annie), Leslie Gautreaux (David), Margaret “Margo” Brockman (Jeffrey), Eddie Hitt (Beth), and Rachael Troxler (John). He was Paw-Paw to his twelve grandchildren, Jessica Harris (Michael), Jason Brockman (Renee), Amanda Rooney (David), Katie Gautreaux, Andre Gautreaux (Katherine), Tazz Hitt (Stephanie), Joshua Gautreaux, Brady Hitt (Jesse), Alex Ryals (Destin), Jordan Hitt, Austin Troxler (Haley), and Zachary Hitt, and his 14 great-grandchildren, Seth Catoire, Madelyn and Grace Brockman, Hannah, Nathan, and Jacob Harris, Gabriella, Andre, and Wade Gautreaux, Owen, Liam, and Neil Rooney, Aubrey Hitt, and Xander Ryals. He is also survived by his brother, Harold Hitt (Mary Ellen) and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ric and Nancy Rodriguez and Beverly Rodriguez (the late Eddie).
He loved his family, Blue Bell ice cream, fishing, and his Alabama Crimson Tide.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 401 Spruce St. Norco, La. Visitation will be held from 9 AM – 11 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11 AM. Interment to follow at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery.
