

Harold A. “Cooney” Cambre, Sr. passed away peacefully at his residence in Norco, LA on Sunday, March 14th. Beloved husband of 50 years to Diane Heltz Cambre and the late JoAnn Vinson Cambre. Father of Harold A. Cambre, Jr. “Drew”, Yvonne Cambre Thomas (Lenny) and the late Therese Cambre Rochelle (James).
Brother of Carolyn Cambre Alleman (the late Earl) and Patricia Cambre Walters.
Grandfather of Whitney Rochelle (fiancé, Paul Orjuela), Ashlynn Bailey (Henry), Timothy Rochelle, Andrew Cambre, JoAnna Rochelle, Aimee Cambre and Christian Rochelle.
Proceeded in death by Maurice J. Cambre, Sr. (father), Hilda Gabb Cambre (mother), Maurice J. Cambre, Jr (Camille), Rodney Cambre (Jean Marie), Dr. Robert G. Cambre (Janice), and cousin Ralph Miller (Sue).
Upon retirement from DuPont Pontchartrain Works in LaPlace, LA, Cooney opened up The Dance Shop and Cooney’s Embroidery and Screen Printing in Lutcher, LA.
He was in the Army Old Guard Unit in Washington, DC and was a Presidential Honor Guard for President Dwight Eisenhower. Cooney was on the founding Board of Directors of Destrehan Plantation as well as a past president. He was also the Director of St. John/St. Charles Bridge Authority, a member of American Legion Post 195 and Knights of Columbus Council 3634.
He loved music, photography, gardening, golf, genealogy, movies and spending time with family and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation on Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 9:30AM-11:30AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church (13396 River Rd, Destrehan, LA 70047). A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30AM. Interment to follow at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Destrehan, LA.
