

James J. Moreau, Sr., age 82, died peacefully at his home on November 11, 2015 at 7:00 PM/ The beloved husband of Jewel Foght Moreau for 59 years, son of the late James G. and Thelma Augrain Moreau, brother of Blanche M. Capritto (Philip), Olga M. Wegmann III (Jay), and the late Yvonne, Marie, and Claynona Marie Moreau. Father of Joni M. Dupuy (Lloyd), Jeanette M. Kirkfield (Chad), James J. Moreau, Jr. (Mikki), and John Moreau. He is predeceased by his grandson, Joshua G. Dupuy and survived by 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Jim attended Warren Easton Boys’ High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. In November 1951, he joined the U.S. Navy with lifelong friend, George J. Carter; Jim went into communications and Mr. Carter went into the electrical division. By the time of Honorable Discharge in November of 1955, both were in charge of their respective departments on the same ship, the U.S.S. Foss D E-59.
Jim owned and operated Moreau’s Quality Carpet Service and was CEP of Moreau’s Carpets, Inc. from 1961 to 1994 and then did 9 additional years with Jim Owens Flooring, retiring from the floor covering business in 2003.
Jim was a founding member of St. Edwards the Confessor Parish in Metairie, Louisiana, where his children attended grade school. He was a commentator at Sunday Mass and also a “Man of Manresa” for over 20 years.
Jim has a lifelong relationship with his music playing in grade and high school bands, and continuing through his service and senior years; he “made music” with several local groups (Oldies but Goodies, Memory Lane American Legion Post 64 and Post 175 and the Shrine Dance Band). Jim called himself a “mediocre trumpet player”, but he loved to play. He also learned to play the piano by devoting two hours a night for ten years to practice. Music was his passion.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation on November 14, 2015 beginning at 10 AM at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home, 821 Fourth Street, Norco, Louisiana 70079; a prayer service will begin at Noon. Interment to follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, 11316 River Road, St. Rose, Louisiana 70087.
