My brother Alex and I met Jeff about a year ago when he was hired at Lazaro's Pizzeria in Mid City. He made such an impression on me; positive, bright, always smiled, loved music just as much as I did. I was happy to have met him. Every time I'd run into him, there was never a hug that I didn't receive. Up till the day that he passed, he was always willing to do something for someone..to have him gone so fast is just something that I would have never imagined. It makes you realize how short life can be, and how every day should be something seen as a gift. I wanted to add a message for so long, just didn't have the words to put down. I wish I could have had more time with him.. he truly was an amazing person..so filled with life. I'll always cherish the times spent all together from last summer. I know as hard as it is to come to terms with his passing, he is truly in a better place, my prayers and thoughts go out to the Hebert family. Jeff, you will truly be missed. I will keep our memories close; you will never be forgotten.

Mike & Mel ... Jeffrey was like our 1st grandchild. I enjoyed him so much when he would come spend time with me and Bee Bee(he couldn't say Debbie - he invented her nickname).  When he would clear the back door, he would run to me in my recliner, grab the little stick used to ring a bell and hold it to my mouth like a microphone.  I would sing Volare' at the top of my voice. He would start laughing and keep it up everytime he passed my chair and I sang everytime he did so.  We drove Bee Bee crazy. When it was time to eat, Bee Bee would fix dinner for him first. He would eat his dinner then come stand in front of my TV tray table while I was eating. I would take a bite, then I had to give him a bite. We ate "my dinner" together.  After dinner, he would sit on my lap and watch tv, have me sing Volare', and just have fun til it was time for him to go home. Everytime I would see him, I'd say, "Where ya at, lil bro" in a funny voice.  His dad said that to him once and was told "only Uncle John can call me that"! These are only a few memories of the happiness Jeffrey supplied to our lives. Jeffrey brought so much joy to Debbie and myself. We love him with all of our hearts and his passing has left a huge void in our lives. I know God is thrilled to have such a beautiful soul in His kingdom. Jeffrey, we will be with you again someday in paradise. We love and miss you, my "lil bro". Uncle John & Bee Bee.

My most vivid memory of Jeff comes from an afternoon we spent in Virginia Beach. We had been driving all day along the coast, and Jeff had found an area where the beach was (supposedly) prettiest. Being from an area that has no beaches, I thought that there would be some kind of parking lot right at the shore. Only after we get to the water did I realized that the last fifteen minutes of driving we had been passing parked cars because there was no such lot. Feeling really lazy at the time, I didn't really care to turn the car around to walk all the way back. I figured I'd park the car somewhere short of the shore on the beach. Jeff started to realize what I was doing. He began saying, "No, man. You can't drive out here." I argued back that I would pull up just a few feet and we'd leave the car there to which Jeff responded, "No. This isn't your car, and we are going to get stuck out there on the sand." Being irritable, I fired back and he laughed saying, "Look! You see right there... It's a guy driving a tow truck waiting for people like us to be stupid and get our car stuck and charge us something ridiculous to pull us back out all of a few feet. Look. He's looking at us. He's smiling." I looked and saw that he was smiling, but Jeff and I had been arguing our entire friendship; and I thought I would be right (as I usually was). I said, "Look, man, I'm just gonna pull up three feet and then..." All of a sudden, the car had become immovable in the sand. I tried at the tires and nothing moved except the sand underneath us. I tried again and nothing. I looked up and saw the smiling towman turn his engine on and approach our left side. We got out the car, and the guy asked us if we needed to be towed. I asked him how much, and he told me 60 dollars. Jeff went behind the car and found out that there was stable ground a foot behind us. Being in an irritable mood already, I would have paid the man to just get us back out on ground. But Jeff probably felt that the price was such an injustice at 5 dollars an inch that we had no choice but to dig ourselves out. We started going at the sand with nothing but our hands. Jeff and I would look up from time to time at the towman who didn't even bother to pull away from his car. He was just sitting there nodding his head. After about an hour of digging the car out; we had our shirts off, our shoes off. We were covered in so much sand you probably couldn't have recognized us from ten feet off. It was so hot that, from time to time, my feet were burning so much that I ran out to the water. The entire time this is going on, people in SUVs had been passing us, rolling down the window so that we might be able to hear them laugh at us. I asked Jeff if I could just pay the man after going to an ATM, but he said no. I figured I got us into this situation so I would now have to listen to what he said. We'd ask the towman advice now and then, because he told us he'd only charged if "the hook goes on." Between his advice and Jeff's ingenuity, at the end of about two hours of digging we had all of our shoes and about a third of all our possessions (that wasn't fragile) in the car then put underneath its tires to get some friction.  We finally tried for it a final time at this point, and the car got back. I looked up at Jeff and realized how ridiculous we looked then and even more so the entire time we had been digging. I looked at my reflection in the mirror, and I was so covered in sand on my face and all over that I could barely recognize myself. As we got on stable ground, Jeff started taunting the towman as if he was some kind of villain. He just nodded at us, because he probably wasn't emotionally invested in our money. There were probably a dozen or so idiots that day that would become his clientele; one of which we saw right as we were pulling out actually. I let Jeff drive, and he was hooting as we were slapping hands as if we had just won the World Cup. It was pretty sad how ecstatic we were about digging ourselves so out of the sand that we could back up a foot after two hours of work. I remember his smile that day in the same way I have always remembered his smile.

I had some ridiculous memories with Jeff. 
We had spent so much time together. One of the things about my high school career that I looked most fondly upon, before hearing the unfortunate news, was that Jeff and I grew closer after he had left Jesuit. I love him very much, and I am so happy that I knew your son as such a great, dear friend.
